A Step To Better Health

Do you feel tired even when you get enough sleep?  Do you need coffee to get going in the morning?  Crave carbs especially sweets?  Do you feel tired and wired?  Are you stressed out?  These are just a few of the symptoms of metabolic chaos (adrenal dysfunction) not to mention all the hidden stressors no one thinks about such as gut issues, food sensitivities,  endocrine disruptors (lotions, plastics etc), skin issues, hormone imbalances, weight gain to name a few.

Considering that the stress hormone (cortisol) is needed to survive, it’s no surprise that the body will push hormones down that pathway and not to the sex hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone), as reproduction is not necessary for survival.  This will keep you alive; it just won’t have you feeling your best.

Well…there is help!!

I see this far too often and it has become the new “normal” so to speak.  For most people, they just think this is the aging process, I am here to tell you its not!  Just because we are getting older does not mean we have to feel and look the part. For most people they just don’t know where to go for help or what to do and end up at their medical doctor who will usually just prescribe some meds or tell them that they are fine even when they know they are not.  I have a friend who had this happen to her recently and even though she ran all the blood tests and they came back “normal” they brushed it off telling her she has fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia really?  For those of you who don’t know, fibromyalgia is a symptom not a diagnosis. This is unacceptable. She came to me and we ran some labs on her and just as I suspected she has metabolic chaos and gut issues.  80-90% of our immunity starts in the gut, so when this is out of balance problems start, usually autoimmune diseases will manifest, and in her case that is exactly what happened.  When I got her results back and came up with her protocol, which included diet, rest, stress reduction, exercise and supplementation I went over it with her.  She has started on the process of regaining her health and is feeling much better.  (Remember this is a lifestyle not a quick fix) it takes time and sometimes people will feel worse before they start to feel better, this is due to they die off of toxins, bacteria and pathogens.  It’s called the healing crisis.

The lab testing has proven to be a critical tool for a proper health coaching program.  “Test, don’t Guess” allows evaluation of actual results and correlation with symptoms in order to create a protocol that restores health.  Protocols are customized to address the specific needs of each individual.

It’s a learning process.  What I love about Functional Diagnostic Nutrition is that we do not “treat” symptoms, we work on the whole person, mind, body and spirit.  Its all connected is what I love to say.  I see this as a journey into a new way of living to our optimal levels!

To your health!!

Trusting the Process

In the beginning of September I decided to be in a 30 day online challenge group for  Body Beast  and  Shakeology .  I had never been in a challenge group before so I wanted to have that experience, plus it looked like fun!  At first I was a little nervous and overwhelmed because as part of this challenge group we were to post a daily picture of our shakeology, one of our meals,  which workout we did and a sweaty post workout selfie.  Eek…I never take selfies much less pictures!  Then there was the fear of everyone seeing it that wasn’t in the group. I have a hard time putting myself out there and this year has been one of pushing me to step outside of my comfort zone with everything and that is a good thing.  The first 2 weeks I kept thinking I needed to do more cardio, so I added one extra day of cardio (Max 30) Everyone kept saying to “trust the process” so I am trusting the process and sticking to my one extra day of cardio.  Well...

What is Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN)

W hat is Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN)?  FDN is a type of detective work that seeks to identify the underlying causes of disease instead of treating symptoms. Stop Chasing Symptoms and Get to The Root Cause! I understand that symptoms must be addressed. You want relief, but you also want to know why you have symptoms and resolve their cause. My approach is to assess underlying function and discover the underlying causes of your health problems. This approach leads to long-term resolution of symptoms, not just temporary relief. Lab Testing   is a great way to   discover hidden internal stressors that are at the root cause of your symptoms . As a FDN Practitioner, I use non-invasive laboratory tests to find hidden internal stressors and their root causes. With this step-by-step method I can assess the functions and pathways of the Hormone, Immune, Digestion, and Detoxification systems. Basically, everything we need to have running smoothly for op...

Why Vegetable Oils are Unhealthy

This keeps coming up and I have to share this! Let’s talk vegetable oils. In case you didn’t know- vegetable oils are bad. Bad for your health and bad for the environment. First- these do not come from vegetables! These are oils that have been extracted from various seeds. The most common include rapeseed (canola oil), soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, and peanut. Unlike coconut oil or olive oil that can be extracted by pressing, these oils have to be extracted in very unnatural ways. Cholesterol and saturated fat are essential to good health. Even now, despite the fact that heart disease, cancer and diabetes rise at an alarming rate while butter consumption is down, vegetable oil consumption is at an all time high. People are still believing the hype and buying this non-healthy food like product.   I have to share this just so you can see how these oils are made! Step 1:  Find some “canola seeds.” Oh wait, they don’t exist. Canola oil is actually made from a...
